Finishing School Turns Them Out Young These Days

I have seen an advertisement for My Mini Baby Born dolls.

I must confess to finding them disturbing in the extreme. They look like babies, sure enough. So, why are they just so wrong?

For one thing, they're wearing jodhpurs, riding hats, and are carrying riding crops.

A real baby would not demonstrate this poise and control. No. A real baby would accidentally smack itself in the face with the riding crop, drop it and inadvertently kick it out of reach, before removing the hat and falling clumsily onto its arse.

Instead of the pristine depiction of a baby in full riding gear, looking ready for the gymkhana, what you would actually see would be more akin to a vacant-looking child sat on its bum, chewing on the brim of — and otherwise defacing — a posh hat. Whilst shitting itself.

If that's a baby, then I don't think those were vitamin pills that his mum was taking during the pregnancy

Another somewhat creepy aspect about these dolls is their height relative to their accessories. They make horses look the size of cats in comparison. And they are supposed to ride these?

What rubbish. A real baby would be tiny in comparison. It would bum-shuffle untidily across the ground towards the horse, grab one of the animal's rear legs in order to pull itself up into a standing position, belch loudly, then pull sharply on the tail, thinking it's the funniest thing ever.

Big doll with a tiny horse
I've met horses before, but I've never known one that short

Finally, I also find it incredibly worrying that these 'new borns' can apparently drive cars. In fact, not only can they drive, but they can supposedly tow horseboxes as well.

Of course, a real baby would have no hope of this. Even if they somehow managed to get the horsebox and the car coupled-up correctly, there's just no way they'd be going anywhere. Instead, they'd climb up on the seat, attempt to eat the steering wheel, and repeatedly headbutt the windscreen. And fart.

Doll towing a horsebox
Giant bald infants in undersized cars towing midget horses are one of the primary causes of accidents in the UK

I'm not actually convinced that these dolls are babies at all. I guess the marketing divison decided that My Upper Class Bald Midget didn't have quite the same ring to it.

Bad Dream, I Hope

I dreamed last night that a huge spider crawled into bed with me, wanting to snuggle.

I woke up worrying about what had prompted me to dream that.

Childsplay

According to the sales blurb on websites selling Hedbanz, the game is the 'classic' one of What's On My Head?

Hedbanz for kids
Yes, just what, indeed, is on my head?

I'm pretty sure that I am aware of the game they're trying to describe here, but — although, maybe it's just me who thinks this — I do think they could have articulated it in a slightly more specific and somewhat less disturbing manner.

Sporadic Post Shocker!

Who knows? This may even be the start of something.

I doubt it, mind.

To be honest, I'm just feeling far too wasted to do anything clever right now, and — since I'm home alone — I thought I'd be a bit pathetic and indulge you all in some more of my irreverent drivel.

Being the nice, generous and generally wonderful person that I am, I have just returned home after putting myself out of my way for a couple of hours and allowing people to practice Swedish massage on me.

This is, obviously, a great thing.

Not so great, however, is the fact that — due to being subjected to three different massages — I am now covered in not only massage oil, but also massage cream and talc as well.

I'm now concerned about letting the house get too warm, for fear I end up the filling in some sort of strange massage media pancake.

Feline Entry, My Dear Watson!

Whilst channeling hopping this evening – and having just caught the last ten minutes of Muppet Treasure Island – I found an old Sherlock Holmes movie starring Christopher Lee and Patrick Macnee.

Now, I must confess that I do find it a little difficult to believe in Christopher Lee as Sherlock Holmes – he'll always be villainous characters like Dracula, Saruman and Count Dooku for me – but there was one line of his in this particular film that will stay with me.

Watson [Macnee] was asleep (and snoring) whilst Holmes (still awake for some reason) discovered that a wild big cat had been intentionally let into their quarters (presumably to eat them both whilst they slept). Oh so very casually, he tricked it into running through a door, which he was then promptly closed behind it – thus adeptly disarming the furry fiend.

Only a little bit cheesy at this point, I agree. But it gets much, much worse.

Right on cue, Watson then woke up and asked Holmes what he was doing. To which he calmly replied:

"Just letting the cat out."

It's a worry. It really is.

Arresting Developments

It would seem that one of my housemates loves to sing. And he seems to know the words to everything.

I have no idea what was going on, or what he was watching on the TV, but I definitely heard him singing along to Bette Midler's Wind Beneath My Wings while he was in the kitchen earlier.

I keep trying to think of a good excuse for that, but I just can't and it frightens me.
